My biggest contraint is time, but at least that is something I can deal with. With a traditional (brick and mortar) business money would be the main factor holding me back. You could go with pay per click to get instant traffic, but as you said it is very unforgiving; You need to really leverage paid traffic by selling a product to cover your cost and build a list at the same time.
